Start with usable space, not a price per car
For two side-by-side cars, measure the frontage, actual vehicle widths, the space between them and safe walking access. A narrow plot may only permit tandem parking. A large turning area can make the total much bigger than two parking bays.
As an illustration, a measured area of 5m × 9m equals 45m². It is not a statutory parking dimension or a guarantee that two particular cars will fit: check your vehicles and the entrance.
What can a 50m² driveway cost?
The existing 2026 installed-price examples also put resin bound at about £6,000 for 50m². These are national benchmarks; a two-car layout may be smaller or larger, and access or groundwork can change the final cost.
Four easily missed design decisions
- Can both cars enter without crossing a neighbour’s land or creating unsafe visibility?
- Can passengers step out without standing in flower beds or against a boundary?
- Where will surface water drain after you pave the area?
- Will widening the entrance require a new dropped kerb or another permission?
Measure multiple rectangles
Our calculator supports separate sections. Measure each rectangle of an L-shaped driveway, add them together and select the intended surface. That gives a more useful estimate than assuming every two-car driveway is the same size.

Is 50m² enough for two cars?
It may be, depending on vehicle dimensions and the shape of the plot. Measure actual vehicles and allow room to open doors and walk safely.
What is the cheapest surface for a two-car drive?
Gravel often has the lowest initial installed-cost benchmark of the materials our estimator models, but base preparation and edging can alter the comparison.
