Resin-bound driveway prices by size
The following installed-price examples are UK averages for a typical installation, not prices for a particular house. They give a sensible first comparison before you ask companies to price your actual site.
| Driveway area | Typical benchmark | What it might suit |
|---|---|---|
| 20m² | £2,800 | Small, single-car space |
| 50m² | £6,000 | Typical two-car driveway |
| 100m² | £10,000 | Large multi-car area |
Resin-bound is generally more expensive upfront than gravel or standard tarmac. Small projects can also cost more per square metre because mobilisation and preparation do not shrink proportionally.
What changes the price most?
The existing surface
Some resin systems may be laid over a sound, correctly prepared base. Cracked, unstable or unsuitable foundations need different work. Do not assume a cheap overlay will be possible.
Water management
The surface can allow water through, but an impermeable base beneath it can still prevent proper drainage. Check the proposed complete system, not merely the decorative top layer.
Edges and awkward shapes
Curved borders, access steps, drainage channels and small irregular sections add materials and labour. Ask for each item to be identified in writing.
Resin bound is not resin bonded
Resin bound mixes aggregate with resin before it is laid. Resin bonded systems scatter stone onto a resin-coated surface, with different drainage and finish characteristics. Our calculator models the resin-bound option. See the full comparison of both finishes.
Before you compare resin driveway quotes
- Measure the total area, including any widening or new parking space.
- Ask whether the price includes excavation, disposal and a suitable sub-base.
- Confirm whether the specified build-up is genuinely permeable and where water will go.
- Agree aggregate colour, edging, thickness, access arrangements and a written warranty.
- Check whether VAT and extras are included before comparing totals.
A national price guide can establish a starting budget, but a contractor needs to inspect the ground to specify the build-up. Use our driveway calculator to prepare an independent estimate first.
Common questions
Is resin cheaper than block paving?
Not usually on the UK-wide example prices used here. A 50m² resin-bound driveway is around £6,000 compared with approximately £5,000 for block paving, though real specifications vary.
Can resin be installed on old tarmac?
Sometimes, if the base is sound and compatible with the chosen system. Drainage, cracks and levels must be assessed before an installer promises an overlay.
